Free Initial Telephone Appointment - 20 Mins

After you contact Exeter Speech & Language Therapy, we will arrange a free 20 minute initial telephone appointment. During this appointment, we can discuss:

• Your child's individual needs and your main concerns regarding their communication

• Whether speech and language therapy may be right for you and your child

If speech and language therapy is the right next step then we can agree an assessment approach best suited to your child and arrange their initial assessment.

Initial Assessment

Initial assessment is a really important part of the process. It helps us build a picture of your child's communication strengths and identify any areas of difficulty, whilst also considering the day to day impact of those difficulties. We can then tailor support to develop your child's communication whilst also working to reduce the impact for them, improving their day to day function and wellbeing.

• For straightforward cases, an hour is normally sufficient to complete an initial assessment.

• For more complex cases, or where assessment needs to be completed in multiple contexts (such as at home and nursery or school), initial assessment can take 2 hours or sometimes more.

• During assessment sessions, I will use a variety of tools, tailored to your child's needs. Assessments tools can include:

  • A case history questionnaire

  • Formal assessments

  • Informal, play based assessments

  • Observation

  • Information gathering from education staff or healthcare professionals.

• Following assessment, you will receive a report detailing the assessment findings, with advice and recommended next steps.

Pricing

Initial assessments start from £160.

Therapy

Therapy is the fun part of the process! I'll incorporate specific techniques into a range of engaging activities and games, customised to your child's interests, to help them develop their communication skills.

Therapy can be completed at your home or within your child’s school/nursery setting. Online therapy sessions are also available, if required.

Therapy sessions last an hour. This time will include:

• Therapy activities with your child

• Discussions regarding progress

• Time for demonstrating and explaining strategies you can use between sessions to consolidate your child's progress.

• Clinical note writing

Therapy is generally most effective when regular practice is continued outside of sessions. I am really passionate about empowering those around the child to support their progress. See the 'Other Services' section below, for more details.

Throughout therapy, I'll be constantly reviewing your child's progress and response, adjusting therapy goals and approaches accordingly.

Pricing

Prices start from £70 per session. A discount of £25 will be applied where a block of 6 sessions is paid for prior to commencing the block of therapy. Please feel free to contact me for details regarding specific costs.

Review Sessions

Following a block of therapy, or after a break from therapy, it can be helpful to complete a review.

This is an opportunity to re-assess, gaining an up-to-date picture of your child's current communication strengths and needs. From this, we can update therapy targets, addressing any remaining areas of need.

Pricing

Review sessions last up to 60 minutes. Prices start at £85 per session.

Other Services

I offer a range of other services, including:

• Report writing

• Developing therapy programmes

• Attending health or education meetings

• Liaising with other professionals

• Referrals to other professionals or services

To increase the effectiveness of therapy, I can provide the following:

• A programme of activities to be shared with education staff or extended family, which reinforce and consolidate the work done during therapy sessions

• Training sessions for family or education staff, empowering and equipping them to deliver therapy activities or programmes

Pricing

These services are charged pro rata at my hourly rate.

Services for Schools and Nurseries

I am available to develop and deliver training packages for staff within school and nursery settings, covering a variety of topics related to speech, language and communication. These include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting children's speech, language and communication in the nursery setting

• Supporting children's speech, language and communication in primary school settings

• Speech sound development and how to support children with speech sound difficulties

• Stammering (children aged 2-6 years)

I am also able to offer regular whole day input to school and nursery settings.
